Is This The Ideal Ride For Eco And Style-Conscious Drivers?

The new Range Rover Evoque is the ultimate in eco-chic - with certified Carbon Neutral UK manufacturing it's an innovator of responsible, guilt-free luxury. Yes, really.

First up; the serene and elegant interior of this SUV. If traditional masculine leather or hair-frizz-inducing nylon isn't your thing, the sumptuous seats have been given an intriguing new environmentally conscious Scandi-cool vibe, thanks to a collaboration with Danish textile experts Kvadrat.

The result? A new wool and suede cloth blend made from recycled plastic bottles. Models with this chosen material use fifty three to be precise. And, if you’re not keen on plastic, however beautifully recycled, you can choose textile options made from eucalyptus, which uses significantly less water when grown than traditional materials. In fact, ip to 33kg of natural and recycled material is used in every Range Rover Evoque.

“We placed a great deal of focus on the creation of refined, sumptuous interior and exterior colour and material details,” says Amy Frascella, head of colour and materials for Land Rover. The aim was to introduce “new materials designed and developed to offer different technical attributes, alongside a more modern look and feel for one of our most progressive vehicles yet.”

Evoque has also introduced two striking new exterior colours, a world away from showy reds and whites. Seoul Pearl Silver is a luxurious, warm pearlescent silver named after the South Korean Capital, while Nolita Grey* is a metallic finish with burnished copper accents inspired by the edgy, urban district of New York City.

The soothing interior colour palette of muted blues and refined greys is complemented by the minimalist design, with the emphasis on a feeling of space, enhanced leg room, a huge centre console between driver and passenger and a bigger boot (10% bigger) wide enough for a folded pram or a golf set. It’s got all the feels of a first class lounge.

And what a relief to be spared an overwhelming pilot-style dashboard. The pared-back design continues with neatly integrated and intuitive touchscreen technology. It’s all there - Apple CarPlay**, Android Auto, 4G wifi, and clever never-bump-a-kerb again camera-based safety systems - but not in a glaringly obvious “boys’ toys” way.

The new Evoque can be fitted with cabin air ionization technology that removes impurities from the environment, improving air quality and filtering pollen. This, plus reduced road noise levels, mean even after hours of driving you’ll arrive feeling calm and refreshed.

The Evoque has all the car character you’d expect of a Range Rover – an All Terrain Progress Control button and the ability to drive through 60cm of water. But despite all the high-tech spoils, the UK manufacturing and product development has been certified as Carbon Neutral – pretty impressive in the car industry.

The guilt-free eco credentials get even better when driving the nifty Evoque around city centres. An efficient all-new 48V mild-hybrid powertrain system designed for urban driving, reduces emissions and improves fuel economy with no charging required.

This works by harvesting energy normally lost during deceleration and storing it in the underfloor battery. At speeds below 11mph, the engine will shut off while the driver applies the brakes. When pulling away, the stored energy is redeployed to assist the engine under acceleration and reduce fuel consumption. This means it causes less noise and air pollution in built-up traffic, along with giving an effortlessly smooth drive.

The Evoque is future-proofing its offering for electric innovation too, with a three-cylinder plug-in hybrid to follow in 12 months that’s even kinder to the environment.

With the use of recycled and natural materials combined with hybrid technology, the new Evoque really does deliver on responsible luxury and all round eco-gorgeousness.
